ELECTRIC VEHICLES: EFFICIENT COAL-BURNERS?

Coal -- our most abundant, readily-usable primary energy source -- can be used more efficiently to generate power for electric vehicles than to produce synthetic fuels for heat-engined ones. It also appears that a widespread shift to electric commuter automobiles could be accomplished without disruption or overload of the U. S. electric power generation industry.
