POSSIBILITIES OF ANALYSIS OF CONCRETE BY MEANS OF NUCLEAR METHODS

POSSIBILITES D'ANALYSE DES BETONS PAR METHODES NUCLEAIRES

This state of the art report describes new methods of analyzing concrete by nuclear means. The author reviews the bibliography of works published recently, especially on new physical methods utilizing large neutron sources. After briefly recalling other conventional nuclear methods, the author indicates the data is possible to obtain with "activation and gamma prompts" methods in high-intensity streams of thermal neutrons (excluding streams from reactors). These data relating to the elementary composition of concrete can be used to control the evolution of the different constituents of concrete (water, cement, sand, aggregates). This possibility of non-destructive control could be utilized either during production or for the control of structures. (TRRL)
