MOTOR VEHICLE IN THE USSR: A STATUS REPORT

Soviet trucks are sturdily made and easy to operate and service. By comparison with U. S. trucks, Soviet trucks are underpowered, slow, and have low payload ratings. As for easy operation, all Soviet trucks with rated load capacities over one ton come with power-assisted brakes, and those rated at over four tons have power steering -- features which are sold as optional extras on many U. S. trucks.
