ULTRA-HIGH-STRENGTH STEEL REINFORCES PLASTIC BUMPER FASCIA

Researchers at Inland Steel Co. have found that ultra-high-strength steel reinforcement can be a practical way to strengthen plastic fascia bumpers, as required by Federal bumper standards. The use of face plates in conjunction with corrugated steel sections can increase the maximum bending moment which the unit can withstand. The use of foam with ultra-high-strength steel can protect it from corrosion.
