AXLE-LOAD DISTRIBUTIONS IN DEVELOPING COUNTRIES AND THEIR IMPLICATIONS FOR PAVEMENT DESIGN AND ROAD STRENGTHENING

To enable axle load surveys to be undertaken simply and easily in a wide range of climatic conditions, a portable weighbridge was developed by the overseas unit, TRRL. The output of the weighbridge which was originally in analogue form only, was subsequently modified to provide a digital output as an alternative. Using this equipment, axle load surveys have been undertaken by overseas unit in a number of countries - mostly in the third world, and axle-load distributions have been collected in countries at various stages of economic development. This report describes the survey methodology, equivalence factors and results of the surveys. (TRRL)
