MEASUREMENT OF ENERGY SAVING BY REGENERATIVE BRAKING IN RAILBORNE TRACTIVE UNITS

MESSUNG DER ENERGIEERSPARNIS DURCH DIE NUTZBREMSE BEI SCHIENENGEBUNDENEN TRIEBFAHRZEUGEN

Tests performed in Hanover, West Germany, involving trial runs under service conditions, are reported. The purpose of these tests was to check the results of theoretical investigations about the level of energy savings due to the use of tractive units with regenerative braking. The energy savings measured were between 24% and 29%. The influence of vehicle design, timetable and the feeding conditions within the energy supply network are discussed.
