A SIMPLE TECHNIQUE FOR EVALUATING THE ACCELERATION - TIME DIAGRAMS

EIN EINFACHES VERFAHREN ZUR AUSWERTUNG VON BESCHLEUNIGUNGS-ZEIT-DIAGRAMMEN

Evaluation of acceleration - time diagrams is often carried out in a superficial fashion, as an exact evaluation is somewhat tedious, because several diagrams must be drawn up and measured. The technique is also inaccurate. These factors have led to an attempt to develop a simple technique by means of which the measurement may be reduced to a defininte number of ordinates and simple calculation processes, without the use of a planimeter. The method involves the use of the well-known Simpson's rule for integration and makes it possible to calculate both the velocity and also the route pattern in a relatively simple fashion. Thus, an expect is able to make predictions regarding the behaviour of the vehicle, from an evaluation of the acceleration - time diagram alone, i.e. Predictions regarding its speed at any moment and the path covered during the entire braking process.
