IS ONE NO LONGER CAPABLE OF DRIVING WHEN OLD?
IM ALTER NICHT MEHR FAHRTAUGLICH?
In contrast to sudden death at the wheel from natural causes, the evaluation of illnesses as a possible cause of accidents is difficult and based on estimates and probabilities. The compulsory examination of older licence holders is an unrealistic requirement because its success does not justify the manpower and organization needed to carry out the examinations. Before the introduction of expensive routine tests, doctors should be encouraged to give more weight to traffic medical opinions and encourage sick drivers, or those who have become incapable through age, to give up the driving of vehicles.
