CONTAINER TILTS--TESTING TO EVALUATE PERFORMANCE

With over 100,000 open top and/or open side containers estimated to be in use world-wide today, the need for reliable tear-resistant tarpaulin covers which possess good dimensional stability under exposure to temperature extremes is of paramount importance if these containers are to continue to meet the requirements of Customs and TIR Conventions and other national regulations. In this article, Felix Konstandt of Konstandt Laboratories, USA, outlines the development of a series of performance evaluation tests for container tarpaulins which, it is claimed, should enable container manufacturers and operators to make a better selection when ordering tarpaulins for their containers. As a back-up to this article, CARGO SYSTEMS has undertaken a survey of tilt manufacturers and the range of products that they currently have available.
