EFFECT OF AIR BUBBLES ENTRAINED FROM BOW ON PROPELLER--INDUCED PRESSURE FLUCUATION

The Author, of Mitsubishi's Nagasaki Technical Institute, has previously given an account of investigations into the excessive vibration experienced in a new class of 14,300-dwt cargo ships, which was attributed to air bubbles being extrained in the flow near the bow and reaching the area above the propeller, and has described how a solution was found by the fitting of a stern tunnel fin. In the present report, he gives a more detailed account of these investigations. It is mentioned that associated investigations are soon to be undertaken.
