INTEGRATED COMPUTER SYSTEMS FOR WEATHER BOUND VESSEL OPERATIONS

Specific tools are now available to operators and management for controlling ship operation under weather- bound conditions. Three computer-based systems are discussed. The first is an operability assessment model for comparative as well as absolute evaluation of different ships under similar operating conditions, while the second is a management control system which combines aspects of both these systems for a more comprehensive analysis of the entire operation in a predictive as well as a monitoring mode. All these systems are currently operational on various ships and have proved to be reliable and extremely useful. In all cases, state-of-the-art knowledge of ship dynamics and environmental effects is used in a particularly efficient manner. Order from BSRA as No. 54,383.
