MOORING FORCES INDUCED BY PASSING SHIPS--MEASUREMENTS IN PROTOTYPE

The paper reports on a study in which the mooring systems of four ships were investigated in prototype with regard to forces, which are induced by passing ships. The objective was to verify knowledge about this special type of force on moored vessels. For that purpose the forces in the mooring lines and also those parameters which characterise the external forces, were recorded. On the basis of these measurements the reaction of the mooring systems and the various external forces could be determined. Because it was permissable in all cases to neglect the mass and damping forces the reaction of the mooring systems could be computed on the basis of a quasi-static system by means of the predicted external forces and compared with the measured data.
