ENVIRONMENTAL AND STRUCTURAL INSTRUMENTATION OF PLATFORMS ON THE NORWEGIAN CONTINENTAL SHELF

The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate have issued instrumentation regulations for fixed offshore platforms. According to these regulations, structural data (performance data or P-data) describing the dynamic platform, behavior as well as stresses and strains in the structures and the foundations, are collected on a regular basis. The purpose of these data is to evaluate the safety of the structures. In these evaluations environmental data (E-data) are also needed. A similar recording scheme is therefore specified for waves, current, wind, temperatures etc. These data will also enter a special environmental data bank at the Norwegian Meteorological Institute.
