FINE TUNING NEEDED TO OPTIMISE RO-RO ACCESS
Careful study of trade requirements and ship size are needed before selecting ro-ro access equipment, particularly on board, if cargo handling rates are to be maximised. At the same time, awareness is needed of proposed legislation which could hinder the free flow of cargo within the vessel. The article discusses various design considerations in ro-ro access, including fixed ramps, lift systems, hatch openings and others.
