DIRECT INJECTION FOR CAR-DIESEL ENGINES TO A NEW M.A.N. SYSTEM

DIREKTEINSPRITZUNG FUER PERSONENWAGEN-DIESELMOTOREN NACH EINEM NEUEN M.A.N.-VERFAHREN

In order to improve the fuel consumption of fast running car diesel engines, the results already determined by M.A.N. Engine Research were developed with respect to making use of the principle of direct injection. The result was the new M.A.N. combustion-system in which a fuel saving of at least 15% was achieved compared with current chamber systems of the same size. This was achieved using direct, single jet cross-section controlled injection complying with US rules on exhaust emission. The characteristics of the system - which is achieved by using conventional parts - are amongst others an adjustable injection area in the injection jet, which leads to the necessary matching with the different mixture forming sequences at high and low engine revolutions, and load-independent regulation of the start of the injection which results in advantages for the quality of exhaust gas, the fuel consumption and combustion noise emission.
