DEWATERING PROBLEM IN CONSTRUCTION OF RAFT FOUNDATION BRIDGE ACROSS "MORNA RIVER" ON BORGAON HATRUN ROAD IN AKOLA DISTRICT

This paper describes in detail an unconventional technique adopted to tackle the foundation and dewatering problem in construction of a submersible bridge. Though the economics of the method did not indicate any spectacular results in this case, a new line of thinking has been definitely introduced. The author has suggested some structural modifications in this technique to make it more economical. To cater to the needs of peculiar conditions, he has introduced the use of a new type of foundation named as "isolated inverted box foundation", which acts during construction operation like a shallow well and thereafter as a raft slab with a ring beam at edges.(a) (TRRL)
