THE APPROACH OF THE LACK OF TRAFFIC SAFETY ON A LOCAL LEVEL
DE AANPAK VAAAN E VERKEERSONVEILLIGHEID OP LOKAAL NIVEAU
The lack of traffic safety, in particular for the pedestrian, the cyclist and the moped rider, worries the national government as well as the local authorities. The national government sets out the rules for traffic safety for the whole country and the local authorities have to accept these rules also in their own city. However the local authorities have a means for improving traffic safety by their traffic circulation plans. In this article recommendations are presented for a possible approach by local authorities by, for instance, priority rules, cycle tracks, pedestrian crossings, street lighting, environment of schools and houses, and information.
