RIGHT TURNING BY CYCLISTS AND MOPED RIDERS AT INTERSECTIONS WITH TRAFFIC SIGNALS

DE RECHTSAFBEWEGING VAN FIETSERS EN BROMFIETSERS OP MET VERKEERSLICHTEN GEREGELDE KRUISPUNTEN

This article on right turns at traffic lights by cyclists and moped riders is intended to be more than a contribution to the discussion about "right-turn-on-red". After A description of the subject a number of factors is dealt with, factors which play a role in the right-turn-on-red problem. A number of possible solutions is given, based upon the objective that freedom of movement and a restriction of waiting times for right turning cyclists and moped riders are to be promoted. The criteria for the application of these measures can be used in designing provisions for cycles and mopeds at intersections with traffic lights. In the end a number of applications is given, developed according to the criteria described. (TRRL)
