PUNCHING DESIGN OF SLABS

CALCULO DE FORJADOS A PUNZONAMIENTO

Large shear stresses and bending moments appear simultaneously in slabs resting on isolated bearing devices and result in an increased danger of punching. An attempt was made to theoretically investigate as accurately as possible the penetration process. Details are given of the mathematical models necessary to calculate the penetration load of a given slab resting on isolated bearings according to the Kinnunen and Nylander theory. Charts are also presented to simplify design. A comparison is made with other penetration theories, which shows the wide dispersion of theoretical ultimate loads. Details are given of A penetration test carried out in Duebendorf, Switzerland, that shows the excellent agreement between the load calculated according to the Kinnunen and Nylander theory and that observed during the test.
