THE THIRD COMPREHENSIVE NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT PLAN AND TRANSPORT PLANNING
The article describes Japan's third comprehensive national development plan which outlines policies for land use development over the next 10 years. Transportation, an integral part of the infrastructure support, is one of the areas outlined in the plan. Improvements in transportation and traffic facilities in Japan will play a major role in community location and urban development. A trend towards a demand for faster and more capacious means of transport is expected to intensify with forecasts of increasing diversification and sophistication in demand. The present transport pattern covering air travel, rail transport and car travel is described. (TRRL)
