NORTHERN ENVIRONMENTAL RESEARCH AND ITS CONTRIBUTION TO IMPACT ASSESSMENT
This article reviews the processes that a possible oil industry project slated for the Canadian north must undergo to provide "A balanced and comprehensive approach to development ... to maximize opportunities for northerners while minimizing threats to the environment." The different studies required to provide a comprehensive environmental assessment are highlighted from the need for, and type of, baseline studies conducted, to the possible impact on the environment resulting from the project. A brief description of some of the environmental studies conducted by APOA are included. APOA projects reviewed are; Nos. 35, 43, 61, 70, 76, 78, 129, and 149. (ASTIS).
