FENDERING REQUIREMENTS/DESIGN FENDER IMPACT CRITERIA
The paper describes the collection and analysis of berthing impact energy records from the BP jetties in the 6th Petroleum Harbour, Rotterdam. It shows that a simple logarithmic transformation of these records yields a distribution that can be extrapolated to predict extreme probability values. Records for several groups of fully and part laden oil tankers are analysed. The analysis leads to the conclusion that design energy can be predicted at low risk levels. These predicted energies can be used as design values for jetties to be built in the 6th Petroleum Harbour or at similar enclosed locations.
