VALIDATION OF THE SEAKEEPING RESPONSE PREDICTION CAPABILITY OF DIGITAL AND HYBRID AIR-CUSHION-SUPPORTED CRAFT MOTION SIMULATIONS
The air-cushion-supported craft is an advanced marine vehicle which is generally capable of operating at higher speeds than conventional ships. Depending upon the design, a particular air-cushion-supported craft may be capable of performing amphibious operations or it may be restricted to waterborne operations. In simulating overwater operations, mathematical models have been developed to predict the dynamic response for maneuvering and for seakeeping. Seakeeping refers to the motion responses of the craft due to wave excitation. Previously the seakeeping performance of this craft has been examined primarily as a post-design characteristic, with major design emphasis being placed upon resistance, powering and stability.
