SOEDRA NAESET- AN EXAMPLE ON SIMPLIFIED DESIGN OF STREETS AND SURFACE WATER SYSTEMS IN A PREPARATION AREA

SOEDRA NAESET - ETT EXEMPEL PAA FOERENKLAD UTFORMNING AV GATOR OCH DAGVATTENSYSTEM I ETT UPPRUSTNINGSOMRAADE

The aim of this project was to investigate the possibilities for and the consequences of an alternative design of streets and surface water handling in Soedra Naeset in Gothenburg in Sweden. The alternative technique is estimated to result in lower total costs while taking into greater consideration the social, environmental and geohydrological consequences. (Soedra Naeset is an older thinly populated area for leisure houses of about 60 hectares. Of later years the area has become more attractive for year-round living.) the total initial costs will decrease by 25% with the alternative proposal. Other advantages are (1) preservation of the existing houses with old walls etc (2) preservation of the area's natural water balance with less risks of vegetation damage, settlements (3) less influence on the quality of the surface water receiver through levelling and self-slagging in the surface water ditches. In the report proposals are given for design of streets, dimension of ditches etc. (TRRL)
