ENVIRONMENTAL AREAS - INTERIM REPORT ON A BEFORE-AND-AFTER ACCIDENT STUDY

Analysis is made of accidents for 19 environmental schemes where traffic management measures have been used to reduce through traffic. Accident data are given for both the environmental areas and the peripheral roads. It is concluded that there are significant reductions in accidents within the environmental areas with no consequential increases in accidents on the peripheral roads. However, in view of the wide scatter of results, care in scheme design is essential. (a) (TRRL)
