IMPORTANT AND URGENT PROBLEMS. METHODS OF SAVING ENERGY IN TRAIN TRACTION
ZADACA VAZNAJA, PROBLEMA OSTRAJA. O PUTJAH EKONOMII ENERGORESURSOV NA TJAGU POEZDOV
In 1979, rail transport in the USSR consumed some 58000 million kW/h of electric current, mostly (85%) for hauling trains. It has been decided to save 340 million kW/h of electricity and 72000 tons of heavy oil in 1980. The author stresses that the most significant energy savings in train traction can be made through better technical maintenance of rolling stock, rational organization of train running, diagrams, perfecting the train operating techniques of driving crews and introduction of regenerative braking.
