BASIC PLAN FOR MARSHALLING YARDS. INCREASE IN COMPETITIVENESS OF THE GERMAN FEDERAL RAILWAY AS A RESULT OF INVESTMENTS

DIE RAHMENPLANUNG FUR RANGIERBAHNHOFE. STEIGERUNG DER WETTBEWERBSFAHIGKEIT DER DEUTSCHEN BUNDESBAHN DURCH INVESTITIONEN

Properly-planned modernization of marshalling yards should result in definite long-term improvement of rail freight traffic's competitivity. The "station centers" introduced gradually from 1974, together with organizational and production planning measures, have made forwarding over short distances faster, more reliable and more profitable. Using the results of this concentration as a starting-point, together with the "transport chain" network, a basic plan for marshalling yards has been established. It represents an extension of a production planning concept coupled with investment projects which have proved to be successful.
