THE PARK-AND-RIDE CORRIDOR STUDY
DE CORRIDORSTUDIE PARKEER-EN-REIS
From Amsterdam a major railway line leads north into the province of North-Holland. Along this line some suburbs are situated. The authors report on a study which was carried out in 1979 by means of counts and interviews among commuters in this corridor. They are particularly interested in commuters who for their home-work trips can choose between car and train. Some conclusions are as follows: many employees are free to choose and this group already often takes the train; a quarter of the non-captive train commuters use park- or kiss-and-ride. The study leads to the conclusion that parts of major cities outside the CBD area should also be serviced by rail.
