WAVE EXCITED TWO-NODE VERTICAL RESONANT VIBRATION (SPRINGING) OF FLEXIBLE SHIPS

This paper is based upon a thorough experimental investigation of this topic and provides for the first time measurements of all the aspects of the problem. A scaled, segmented model of a 280,000 ton tanker, specifically built for this purpose, was tested in a towing tank measuring the vibratory bending moments, deflections, frequencies and profiles. Comparisons of each type of experiment to available theoretical predictions cater for the discrepancies existing at present. The results of the exciting and response forces experiments, when used in calculations, yield the measured bending moments.
