CASE-STUDIES ON THE FINITE ELEMENT ANALYSIS OF BEAM AND SLAB BRIDGE DECKS
This paper presents case studies on the finite element analysis of beam and slab type of concrete bridge decks. The case studies have been carried out using the IBM 370/model 155 computer at the IIT, Madras and the SAP IV package program. From the results of the case studies recommendations have been made regarding the modelling of the deck, mesh size to be adopted and technique for generating reaction influence contours. Data regarding typical running times and cost of the solution are also given. Comparison of the results with those of orthotropic plate theory, wherever possible, has been made.(a) (TRRL)
