There is a short discussion on studies of creep deformation for bituminous mixtures, which starts with the development of a physical model and the relation between creep test and tracking test in the laboratory. This has found practical application where the results obtained in the creep test are used as input data for a process in which the permanent deformation of roads is estimated. The quantitative interrelation is shown between the actual deformation properties (smix-sbit characteristic) and the external parameters (traffic, environmental factors, structure), which determine the behaviour. The paper gives a survey of the possible influences of the creep test test conditions on the determination of the smix-sbit characteristics. The parameters discussed are: size and form of the sample pieces, type of apparatus, attendant personnel, test medium, polishing and lubrication of the sample pieces, glueing of sample pieces, pre-load, starting conditions etc. Based on the results and in consideration of the requirements of the experiment to obtain a means allowing mixtures to be graded qualitatively or to determine absolute properties for the purpose of estimating the track depth, tentative recommendations are formulated for carrying out a uni-axial creep test with constant load.
