INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM ON GRANULAR MATERIALS - BUDAPEST, 9-12 OCTOBER 1978 - FRENCH SPECIFICATIONS GOVERNING PAVEMENT AGGREGATES

COLLOQUE INTERNATIONAL SUR LES MATERIAUX GRANULAIRES - BUDAPEST, 9-12 OCTOBRE 1978 - SPECIFICATIONS FRANCAISES RELATIVES AUX GRANULATS POUR CHAUSSEES

The new French specifications for aggregates used in road construction are based on several research actions: the behaviour of aggregates in existing pavements; qualitative evaluation of aggregates delivered on site; determination of some basic parameters; in-situ and laboratory tests. The specifications are drafted as a function of heavy traffic, of the position of the layer in the pavement, and of the binders used. The characteristics emphasized in specifications are: grading, mechanical strength and cleanliness. The sand equivalent, angularity of crushed alluvial material, and the percentage of laminar particles are taken into account in the specifications only for wearing courses. The differences existing among the aggregate characteristics mentioned above, are also dealt with in quality specifications. (TRRL)
