THE HYDRATION OF CALCIUM FERRITE AND CALCIUM ALUMINO FERRITE

Differential thermal analysis, x-ray diffraction, scanning microscope and microprobe analysis were used to study the hydration of 4 types of calcium ferrite and calcium alumino ferrite with water and a saturated calcium hydroxide solution at 5, 20 and 50 deg C. The reactive property of the compounds increased with an increase in temperature and aluminium and ferrite content: c2f seems to be hydrolyzed at 50 deg C. At 50 deg C aluminium phases give hexagonal hydrates C2 (a,f) h8 and C4 (a,f)13 simultaneously. A following partial substitution by iron in cubic and hexagonal hydrates was confirmed. (TRRL)
