PHOTOGRAPHIC PARKING DURATION SURVEYS
As transportation analysts require increasingly complex data more attention has been given to photographic techniques to simplify the initial data collection process. They also allow detailed extraction of data at a later time. The author explains a photographic method for the data collection of on-street parking-duration surveys. A pilot survey was undertaken to assess the feasibility of the method using simple hand-held camera techniques. Future developments could make use of vehicle-mounted 16 mm or 35 mm motor-driven cameras. The paper shows that the photographic technique has a number of advantages compared with the registration number method. (TRRL)
