IMPORTANCE OF ALUMINIUM IN THE CONSTRUCTION OF RAILWAY ROLLING STOCK
Aluminium alloys have already been used for the inside lining and fittings of railway rolling stock. The author demonstrates that, because of the development and growing complexity of rolling stock, the tendency for the tare to be increased can be offset to a large extent by employing aluminium. He then refers to the design and utilization criteria for aluminium and the solutions adopted in this field by the SNCF, the RATP and the manufacturers, and in this way provides some reliable and new references to the use of this metal in railway rolling stock.
