A TRANSPORT PLANNING MODEL FOR THE STATE OF SAO PAULO

This paper presents a model used for the planning of the transport system for the state of Sao Paulo, Brazil. The state of Sao Paulo has a population of over twenty million and more than 60% of the industrial production of Brazil. Because of the diversity of agricultural and industrial production and its relationship to the location of population, a complex model needed to be developed. The model tries to capture the fundamental relationships between the transport system and the economic system of the state, through the use of the input-output framework. This paper describes the characteristics of the model, definitions used, mathematical formulation, calibration procedure and finally, its use.(a) (TRRL)
