DYNAMIC POSITIONING SYSTEMS FOR SHIPS -- OPERATIONAL EXPERIENCE

Past experience, over several years, in the design and commissioning of a number of dynamically positioned (DP) ships is reported. The vessels' primary task is diver support in the North Sea, operating as close as possible to fixed platforms while the divers inspect and maintain the underwater structures. The DP systems on four of the vessels are described, and some of the problems solved are discussed.
