CROSS-BOREHOLE OBSERVATION OF SOIL GROUTING

An investigation of the dispersion of chemical grout injected into a sandpit experimental site near Friendship Airport, Baltimore, Md. was carried out by Lawrence Livermore Laboratory for Hayward Baker Associates and the Federal Highway Administration. High frequency electromagnetic cross-borehole probing was use to observe the grouted area. An underground image was produced by means of geotomography, a concept that is new to geophysical exploration. This visual presentation clearly identifies the location of the injected grout. (ASCE)
