MECHANICAL EQUIPMENT AT THE PORT OF HAY POINT, QUEENSLAND. THE FIRST FOUR YEARS

A number of typical mechanical/structural engineering problems encountered during the early life of a major "port on land" and shipping complex, for the export of metallurgical quality coking coal, are outlined. These problems are categorized and the measures used to overcome them discussed; principally in relation to the larger bulk handling machines - shiploaders, stackers, bucket wheel reclaimers.
