MONITORING AND PREDICTION OF CABLE LOADINGS IN OFFSHORE OPERATIONS

Presently, wire and synthetic ropes are used for a multitude of purposes in offshore construction and operations, including anchoring, crane rigging, cargo lashing and deployment of subsea apparatus. An overview of many of these operations is presented, including a discussion of typical forces and loads that can be expected. Some methods of predicting these loads are described, for design and planning purpose, as well as for operational guidance.
