PUMPING SYSTEMS FOR PRODUCT AND OIL TANKERS TO REDUCE THE RISK OF POLLUTION

The Framo hydraulically driven submerged piping system developed to minimise pollution and cargo cross contamination in chemical tankers is now being used increasingly on product and crude carriers to minimise operational pollution of oil. The system, using one individual cargo pump per tank, is ideally suited to comply with regulations for the Crude Oil Washing System (COW) and Segregated Ballast Tanks (SBT). The advantages of the system from the aspects of stripping, tank washing, and crude oil washing operations are briefly detailed in this paper.
