MEANS FOR THE REDUCTION OF NOISE TRANSMITTED FROM SUBWAYS TO NEARBY BUILDINGS

A brief overview is presented of how noise and vibration generated by passing subway trains reach buildings near subway tunnels. Various means for reducing the ground-transmitted noise and vibration are described such as the use of resilient track support structures and the isolation of buildings and rooms, their effectiveness is discussed, and specific needs for further research are indicated.
