TRANSPORTATION AND ENERGY

The status of transportation in Japan's overall energy consumption is discussed, along with the consumption characteristics of the individual modes. Conservation by transport modes and by Japanese National Railways is described. JNR will seek to substitute buses for light density passenger operations, expand electrification to reduce diesel operations, adopt regenerative braking for electric multiple unit cars, and foster a series of technological developments to cut oil use.
