EVOLUTION IN THE CREEP OF CONCRETE AS A FUNCTION OF MIX DESIGN, STRESS LEVEL AND AGE
L'EVOLUTION DUU FLUAGE DU BETON EN FONCTION DE SA COMPOSITION, DU TAUX DE CONTRAINTE ET DE L'AGE
In the successive editions of the recommendations published by the European committee for concrete (CEB) mathematical expressions are given for the evaluation of concrete creep. As these recommendations have been incorporated in the new standard nbn b15, this estimated value of concrete creep appeared worth studying. A comparative study was conducted between the experimental and estimated creep deformation values of 59 types of concrete. The absolute deformation was analyzed, more precisely the difference between the real and calculated values of this deformation, and also the value of the relative deformation at various ages in relation to the final creep. The time-related evolution in creep, which was proposed in the recommendations dated 1970 (kt coefficient) is acceptable. As regards the creep coefficient (phi) given in the 1975 proposals, it is less acceptable for it gives a less rapid variation in creep as a function of time. From a practical point of view, it seems preferable to keep the 1970 recommendations to evaluate creep deformation instead of adopting a formula more complex in use and which does not give a better time-related creep curve.
