MAINTENANCE OF CONCRETE PAVEMENTS THE LOIRE IN BLOIS

UNDERHAALL AV BETONGBELAEGGNINGAR

This report presents failures on concrete pavements, their causes and the maintenance of concrete pavements. The failures can be divided into two main groups: surface failures and construction failures. The causes can be divided into four categories: (1) unsatisfactory design (A) underestimation of traffic flow (b) underestimation of the influence of climate, (2) inappropriate materials in joints, (3) inappropriate construction and defective construction control, (4) inappropriate subsoil and subgrade (A) inappropriate drainage system or clogged drainage system (B) insufficient maintenance of the drainage systems, joints, shoulders etc. (C) swelling or plastic soils. According to the nature and the extent of the failures and the repair method the maintenance can be divided into two main groups: limited maintenance and extensive maintenance. The limited maintenance consists of (a) maintenance of joints and cracks (b) local surface repair (C) pressure grouting (D) minor resurfacing and use of prefabricated slabs.
