METHOD OF STUDYING THE MECHANICAL STRENGTH AND DEFORMABILITY OF SOIL SUBJECTED TO TRIAXIAL STRESSES

OB ODNOM METODE IZUCHESNIYA PROCHNOSTI I DEFORMIRUEMOSTI GRUNTOV V USLOVIYAKH PROSTANSTVENNOGO NAPRYAZHENNOGO SOSTOYANIYA

The authors present solutions to standard problems of axial symmetry as they occur in specimens in the shape of hollow cylinders with thick walls when limit equilibrium is reached. These solutions were reached in experimental studies carried out to find formulae describing the mechanical characteristics of cohesive soil. The accuracy of the results is shown. Attention is drawn to the prototype equipment used, which is best adapted to the behaviour of subgrades. (TRRL)
