At the international motor show in Birmingham, vehicle manufacturers discussed the future development of commercial vehicles. The germans stressed the engine displacement capacity tax which inhibits development. Particular attention was paid to the design of driver cabs to satisfy ergonomic requirements, so as to reduce stress on drivers. The trend in automatic transmission for heavy lorries is significant. Daimler Benz stated that air resistnac had been reduced by 20 percent. The trend towards higher engine efficiencies and optimum fuel consumption is also significant. The demand was put forward for an increase in total weight. (TRRL)
