ATTITUDES TO THE SAFETY BELT IN THE CONTEXT OF RELEVANT PERSONALITY VARIABLES

EINSTELLUNGEN ZUM SICHERHEITSGURT IM KONTEXT RELEVANTER PERSOENLICHKEITSVARIABLEN

The attitudes of "regular belt use" and "conscious non use of belts", obtained by factor analysis were related to self-interest, fear of death, body pattern, and social-demographic variables. For the male sample there were positive relations between conscious non-use of the belt and social-demographic variables and fear of death, and negative relations between regular belt use and social-demographic and body pattern. In the female sample there were only positive relations between conscious non-use of belts and accidents with fatal outcomes and fear of death. In factor analyses carried out separately according to sex only conscious non-use of belts related significantly to other variables. (TRRL)
