This paper describes and comments on recent government proposals affecting the transport sector in New Zealand. Proposed changes at regional level in the coordination and planning of transport, include the establishment of urban transport authorities to plan and implement transport services and facilities. The article discusses the financial and administrative implications of these proposals with regard to the existing public transport infrastructure. (TRRL)
