STUDY OF THE PRECISION OF SPREADING MACHINES. METHODS AND EQUIPMENT

ETUDE DE LA PRECISION DES ENGINS DE REPANDAGE - METHODES ET MATERIEL D'EXECUTION

The aim of this study was to define the precision of spreading machines used on stabilized gravel sites. The machines studied were: the grader, finisher (wire guide or blocked screw guide), and autograder (with or without fine adjustment). Levelling measurements were taken so as to know the level of each point recorded in relation to the theoretical level in the project or the reference level (wire for example) and the thickness of stabilized gravel laid at each layer. Measurements were made at the level of the subgrade, of the sub-base before and after compaction, and of the roadbase before and after compaction. Tables present these results and enable spreading machines to be classified according to their precision. The autograder was found to be the best after fine adjustment, the finisher and the grader giving more mediocre results. In part two of the article a comparison is made between the various spreading machines from the point of view of the longitudinal and transverse evenness of the surface. The transverse profile analyzer used longitudinally after the grader revealed certain phenomena such as the influence of the guide wire supports, the variation of the banking correction pendulum and the accuracy of the feelers.
